Freedom, And The Power of Knowing What Is Not Absolute

Let us look around.

What in our world is absolute and what is not?

What can we control and what can we not control?

What can we look at in a whole new way, and what is fixed and determined?

The rising and setting of the sun. The changing of the seasons. The natural principles that govern the universe. These things are determined for us, and we cannot change them. But not much else falls into this category.

Laws. Scripture. Moral beliefs. They are not absolute.

Political units such as nations. Social units such as families. Economic units such as corporations. They are not absolute.

History (or at least the way we understand it). Philosophy. Theology. They are not absolute.

Jobs. Roles. Authority. Customs. Tradition. Superstitions. Common sense. Conventional wisdom. They are not absolute.

The way things are. The way things have always been. The way things might be. They are not absolute.

Time (In most of the ways we measure it). Money. Private property. Contracts. Constitutions. They are not absolute.

The list could go on, but most of what we think determines our lives and the possibilities for it lives are not set in stone. They are merely boxes that humans have created which confine us and limit our potential.

These boxes enslave us.

Those who learn how to control these boxes can oppress those who not understand them. Or, they can use the power of their freedom in less selfish ways.

The rules and conditions in our lives that are absolute belong to God, and we must accept them.

The ones that are not absolute, God has given to us.

We can follow them, ignore them, rethink them, reshape them, destroy them, intensify them, multiply them, or do with them as we will.

Most of the ones that we think determine our existence and that we cannot change, are actually completely under our power.

This is where the power of freedom lies.
